Axelent Engineering has delivered a wire bending machine to Backstigs Fabriks AB. Backstigs Fabriks AB was founded in 1935 by Gösta Backstig and is a family-owned company located in the village of Tyngel, just outside Hillerstorp.
The company specializes in high-quality wire bending and manufacturing of metal products. Originally, they produced dish racks and bathroom fixtures, but today they supply various product chains and design companies, including Maze Interior in Stockholm, for whom they produce coat racks, shoe racks, and more. Backstigs Fabriks AB manages the entire production chain, from processing and bending wire to final delivery. The company is currently owned by the third generation.
Greater Capacity and More Opportunities
“We purchased a wire bending machine from Numalliance through Axelent Engineering. We already had a wire bending machine in our production, but we needed a machine with greater capacity and more features to be able to manufacture more complex components. The new machine can handle significantly thicker wire than the one we had before,” says Peter Backstig.
What has the project's journey looked like? Can you tell us a bit about the process?
“We ordered the machine in August of last year, but we had been considering this for a longer time. Together with Mats and Jens from Axelent Engineering, we traveled to France to visit Numalliance and look at different types of machines before we made our decision. We received quotes for various machines, and the delivery took place just before the summer vacation.”
How has the collaboration with Axelent Engineering been?
“This is the first time we are purchasing a machine through Axelent Engineering. When we saw that they were selling wire bending machines, we decided to investigate it further, and we feel that the collaboration has worked very well. Everything has gone smoothly without any major obstacles. We have had close communication with the salespeople at Engineering, and they have visited us to ensure that everything is functioning as it should with the new machine.
My brother Anders and I also went to Numalliance's factory in France for training on the new machine. The programming of the machine is similar to our old machine, but it must be adjusted for each specific product we manufacture. Once you have determined how a product should look, the machine shows how the bending will be performed. The new machine is more complex and has significantly higher capacity,” Peter continues.
