Resource support in machine service at Nexans

Axelent Engineering has for several months supported Nexans' maintenance department, a department responsible for both ongoing and preventive maintenance as well as the production of spare parts for their facility. The pace is high, and on average one machine is taken out of operation each day for scheduled maintenance or on-site repair.

Nexans is a global manufacturer of cables and cable solutions and operates a large production facility in Grimsås, employing around 500 people. There, they produce cables for power and installation, alarm and security, the automotive industry, as well as fiber and optical cables.

Machine service resource support

Erik Lundmark, supervisor for the mechanics at Nexans, has during the fall of 2024 and spring of 2025 needed extra support, partly due to a generational shift among employees in the maintenance department. Two service technicians from Axelent Engineering have assisted each week with machine service and preventive maintenance.

 

Erik highlights that Axelent Engineering’s local presence and the service technicians’ independence have been crucial in quickly covering both skills and resources when needed. The collaboration has been characterized by quick communication, an understanding of Nexans as a company, and a shared commitment to making things work.

Partner in breakdowns, maintenance, and development

Axelent Engineering’s service technicians have provided support in several ways:

  • In the event of breakdowns, they have quickly disassembled machines, identified the problem, and collaborated with Axelent Engineering’s manufacturing department to produce custom spare parts, which were then installed to get the machines up and running again
  • Participated in renovation work where parts were replaced as a preventive measure to avoid future downtime
  • Contributed with their own suggestions, for example by identifying worn machine parts that had previously gone unnoticed and recommending their replacement

Collaboration with our manufacturing department

Axelent Engineering’s manufacturing department has collaborated with and supported the service department on several occasions during assignments at Nexans.

 

For example, when there was a need to manufacture magazine wheels, something beyond Nexans’ own capacity, the manufacturing department stepped in to assist. Additionally, when the service department identified parts that needed replacement or encountered problems that no one else could solve, Axelent Engineering’s manufacturing team developed solutions, designed components, and managed the entire process to completion, sometimes within as little as 24 hours. This type of solution-oriented approach makes Axelent Engineering more than just a supplier, they are a true partner in the daily operations.
